See now, this True-Life Adventure I enjoyed, and Bob found less interesting.
Perhaps some background on my charming Puerto Rican husband is required. Puerto Rican by culture and heritage, he spent his formative years growing up in New York and New Jersey. He would then, inexplicably, move to Kansas as a young teenager, and spend his exciting teenage years in the country. The exciting mid-west.
So it turns out that, apparently, watching a documentary focusing on animals you spent a decade living amongst doesn't make for the most riveting watch. Doesn't matter how cute the prairie dogs are. They're still just prairie dogs. Buffalos? Buffa-who cares - so says my handsome hubby.
Guess this is no 'Living Desert'.
I, personally, would rather watch pretty birds and cute animals, even if I was used to seeing them rather than creepy tarantulas. But they say opposites attract and I suppose this just proves it.
It does, much to Bob's chagrin, make me want to visit Kansas.
The True-Life Adventure style of documentaries is growing on me. I like the plot mixed in with some facts, especially since this many decades later I'm not quite sure how accurate those facts are. But it definitely feels like it's own unique beast, and I kind of like it. You're going on an adventure, not just being given a list of facts about one animal for five minutes before it swaps to something else and you forget it all in the never-ending sweep of David Attenborough's voice.
The debate over which is better - 'Living Desert or 'Vanishing Prairie' will rage for years in our household. And so, maybe that staying power should tell you all you need to know about both of these True-Life Adventures.
